Unofficial Voting Station

Voter Suppression my A**

by Mia Hackett

As voting season approaches, millions are casting their votes through the mail and even venturing out to the polls. At the same time, a lot of people do not have the opportunity to have their voices heard or even get the fancy "I voted" sticker at the end. My goal was to recreate this "official" sticker, specifically using red, white, and blue to emphasis the ironic patriotism, and give people a voice through these stickers. Using a patriotic take, it highlights the holes that we see in our system. While some stickers have a more serious tone, other are supposed to come across as sarcastic and mimic things that have been said about voter suppression. My end goal was to bring awareness to the fact that there are a lot of people that cannot vote and allow them to show off a sticker. By hanging them on traffic poles, it gives the residents a chance to see them. Whether or not someone takes them, it still brings awareness to voter suppression.
